I am the founder and editor of the Islam and Science Fiction Project. I started the eponymous website in 2005 after researching on this subject and realized that there is a dearth of information on this subject. In the beginning it was mainly a repository of links, summaries and information about novels, movie, comics, short stories, TV shows etc with Science Fiction elements that also have Muslim characters, Islamic themes or set in predominantly Muslim cultures. It has evolved into a much larger project with community engagement, commentaries on current themes in Science Fiction, annual short story competition etc. A digital archive of related materials for this project is maintained at the Texas A&M University. The project now has about a dozen contributors and one of our former contributors is a Hugo and Nebula award finalist.

  1. Mohammed El-Ashkar

Salam brother, I have a question

Recently I watched the film “Total Recall”, and I was wondering if the phenomenon in that film could have any validity in real life? Through a scientist and Muslim eye, is this at all “real”? I want to put my heart at rest, and of course as a Muslim I want to gain knowledge that would be beneficial for me.
    Thank you brother

  2. Dear Muhammad,

I hope this finds you well. To introduce myself, my name is Sophie and I am the online coordinator at Baku magazine.

We are set to publish a piece on Middle Eastern Science Fiction and will be including your work.

I am looking for some imagery to accompany the piece and was wondering if you might be able to share some imagery with us?

Many thanks in advance for your help and please do let me know if you have any questions.

    All the best,

    Sophie
